Careers

A key driver of success for Elyria Foundry and Hodge Foundry is our people. We employ the most skilled and experienced foundry workers in the world, including many third and fourth generation employees.

We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and support diversity throughout our organization.

Careers in Management

Elyria Foundry and Hodge Foundry staff professionals in all management, technical, and sales disciplines. We are committed to developing and advancing our employees whenever possible. Through the Iron University employees can manage their learning according to defined learning paths based on their current or future job expectations.  Being a mid-sized company allows individuals the opportunity to ‘make a difference’ and be heard at all levels of the organization.

Apprenticeship Leads to Mastery

Our journeyman work force is developed through a comprehensive apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice program selected, employees can achieve Journeyman status in a little as 2 years or up to 5 year.  The Apprenticeships have defined learning requirements and consist of on-the-job training across various departments in the Foundry, including engineering, lab and quality control.  In addition, each apprentice attends classroom instruction structured around basic foundry practices, including basic metallurgy, no-bake sand control, and blueprint reading. The goal of the apprenticeship is to create an educated, skilled, well rounded individual who has the tools he/she needs to feel confident and proud of their workmanship.

Skilled Operators

For employees who are motivated by using their hands daily to craft and make a product, the foundry offers several skilled operator positions as well.   On the job training is also provided for these operator roles, where an individual can be trained and become qualified in a shorter period of time such as 30 days.   These positions are also a good stepping stone to progressing into an apprenticeship.

Internships and student learning opportunities

We seek to partner with local universities and technical schools to offer challenging, meaningful and education opportunities for college and technical students alike.   The internships not only provide a learning opportunity but also allow the student to grow in his/her confidence and knowledge of interacting within a business environment.  The interns are more prepared for their careers having completed the internships.   We are proud supporters of the Foundry Education Foundation and annually the College in Industry conference in Chicago Illinois.

Our manufacturing jobs offer a living wage, well above the state mandated minimum wage, and benefits.  Although we share in the ups and downs of the economy we must be doing something right to have been a part of the Elyria and Greenville communities for over 130 years.  Our employees can be proud of the castings they produce as they are used in a variety of core industries within our country, from power generation, to infrastructure, to mining, and even heavy industrial equipment.

Participation in Industry and Trade Associations

In addition to their day-to-day job responsibilities, many of our employees take leadership roles in a variety of technical and trade organizations. These organizations are involved in research concerning foundry technical and environmental issues, as well as trade organizations focused on developing new markets and applications for our castings
